Anambra State Government in collaboration with World Bank and Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) recently organised trainings for health workers in the state on COVID-19 pandemic prevention, control and safety.
The training which commenced Sept. 24th in Awka, was executed in batches.
Health workers undergoing the training are, Safe Burial Team, Medical Lab Scientists and Ambulance drivers.
Speaking during the training, Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala said that it was a World Bank/NCDC Project on COVID-19 Response, prevention control and safety measures.
He explained that the training would go a long way in helping the health workers, who are frontliners in the fight against the pandemic not to contract the disease while discharging their duties.
He posited that the fight against the coronavirus pandemic is not a child’s play, that is why it became imperative for the World Bank and NCDC to support us to organise this training.
He then commended the World Bank/NCDC for their efforts in ensuring that health workers are well protected when saving the lives of others. While pointing out that a team from NCDC and World Bank monitored the training and expressed optimism that they will achieve its objective at the end.
He further stated that Medical Lab Scientists are to undergo the following training, Surveillance on COVID-19 response, Introduction to Surveillance Outbreak Response Management and Analysis System (SORMAS), Sample Collection, Packaging, Storage and Transportation.
While Ambulance Drivers, Safe Burial team and Ward COVID-19 Action team will also undergo trainings on Infectious diesease Prevention and Control, Basics of COVID-19 pandemic, Transmission based precautions; Contact, Droplet and Airborne.
Donning, Doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), making the right PPE choices, Handling of dead bodies as well as safe burials.
