The governors and leaders of the South South geopolitical region have demanded for an apology from the presidency for abruptly aborting a crucial stakeholders meeting which was scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt yesterday.
In a statement signed by Special Assistant Media to Governor Nyesom Wike, Kelvin Ebiri, the presidency had fixed a meeting for Tuesday with the governors and other leaders of the region to discuss burning national issues affecting the region and the aftermath effects of the EndSARS protests.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, who also presided over the session said the botched meeting was called through the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Agboola Ibrahim Gambari.
The meeting was adjusted twice from 11am to 1pm. Governor Okowa , who is also the chairman of the South South Governors Forum said the Chief of staff caller later on Tuesday afternoon to cancel the meeting. He expressed disappointment that the region could be treated in such disdain.
The governor went ahead to call for an unreserved Public apology to the region, particularly to the Traditional rulers and leaders in the zone.
In her reaction, member of the 2014 national political reforms conference, Ms Ann-Kio Brigs said the Federal Government simply demonstrated the value it placed on the South South geo political zone.
The meeting which was hosted by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike had Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State and Godwin Obaseki of Edo state and others notable figures in the region.
