Gunmen enforcing the Monday sit-at-home order in Anambra State killed four individuals and critically injured the President General of Abatete, Mr. Chimame Ezigbo.
Three victims, members of the Abatete Vigilante Service, were killed alongside the PG, who was shot in the head and is in critical condition. The fourth victim, a motorcycle rider and vigilante member, was shot at Ukpo Junction in Dunukofia.
The simultaneous attacks between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. caused panic, with businesses shutting down abruptly. Eyewitnesses described the chaos, lamenting the targeting of a leader known for promoting peace.
Police have launched an investigation, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice. The resurgence of violence raises concerns as residents believed the sit-at-home order’s enforcement was declining.
