
The member representing Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha Federal Constituency on Friday, 18th February paid a visit to the Sickle Cell Orphanage Home in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area.
Hon. Dozie Nwankwo said the aim of the visit was to build a healthy network with the management of the home and get acquainted with ways to promote the standard of healthcare for sickle cell persons in the constituency and create awareness on sickle cell.
Hon Nwankwo also said he was motivated by the level of care and dedication from the staff of the home and assured to work on strengthening support groups to be able to assess the effectiveness of the control strategies in place to eliminate sickle cell disease.
The proprietor of the home, Mrs Aisha appreciated the lawmaker for his visit, acknowledging it as the first time elected public officials from the Federal Constituency visited the home. She said that the visit would bring good tidings for the sickle cell community and also interface with the National Assembly to provide the much needed legal framework for the prevention, control and management of the continuous spread of the disease.
She also hoped that their expectations in the short and long terms will soon materialize.
