The Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Romanus Ibekwe, has commissioned a solar-powered borehole project in Aguluzigbo, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to delivering sustainable projects that directly improve the lives of residents across the local government.
The project, according to the contractor, was a challenging one, as efforts to access underground water had suffered several setbacks before success was eventually achieved. He disclosed that drilling had to reach approximately 980 feet before a viable water source was found, following about two unsuccessful attempts which resulted in significant financial losses. Despite the difficulties, the contractor said the determination of the council leadership ensured that the project was completed for the benefit of the community.
Speaking during the commissioning, the councillor representing Aguluzigbo Ward, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Asonibe, commended Mayor Ibekwe for his resilience and commitment to development, particularly his determination to ensure that projects in Aguluzigbo are completed despite the challenges encountered. She described the solar-powered borehole as another demonstration that the mayor’s administration is focused on providing practical solutions to the needs of the people.
Addressing the people of Aguluzigbo, Mayor Ibekwe declared that he would continue to commission projects across Anaocha until the final day of his tenure. He stressed that he was intentional about every project embarked upon by his administration, explaining that his government had gone beyond many of the promises made to the people. He said the solar-powered borehole was designed to provide reliable access to water while reducing the burden on residents.
Ibekwe further attributed the achievements of his administration to the vision and initiatives of the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, saying he had continued to draw inspiration from the governor’s development agenda. He noted that his administration was committed to aligning with the governor’s Solution Agenda by delivering projects that promote grassroots development, improve living conditions and create tangible value for the people.
The President-General of Aguluzigbo, Hon. Ndubuisi Amaefuna, welcomed the mayor and expressed appreciation for the project, describing it as a meaningful intervention that would address one of the basic needs of the community. He commended Ibekwe for remembering Aguluzigbo in his development plans and for demonstrating commitment to the welfare of the people.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Iruowelle Village, Mr. Anene Oraechebe, thanked the mayor for the project and praised his administration for its visible presence at the grassroots. He said the commissioning had further strengthened the confidence of the people in the council’s commitment to community development.
The traditional ruler of Aguluzigbo, HRM Igwe Sir Rufus Iloduba, Eze-Ohanyelu II of Aguluzigbo, who was represented by Comr. Somtochukwu Okoye, also welcomed Mayor Ibekwe and appreciated his administration for the intervention. He noted that the provision of potable water through the solar-powered facility would be of immense benefit to residents and prayed for the continued success of the mayor’s administration.
The commissioning was attended by notable individuals including, Hon. Nonso Orakwe, Secretary to the Anaocha Local Government Council; Hon. Peter Ewenike, Youth President, Aguluzigbo Development Union; Mrs. Roseline Mmaduagugbue, Women President-General, Aguluzigbo, as well as other community leaders, stakeholders and residents who gathered to witness the commissioning of the project.
