The Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Romanus Ibekwe, has commissioned an ultra-modern health centre and a state-of-the-art Skills Acquisition Centre in Ngbuwa Village, Akwaeze, as part of his administration’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery and empower residents with practical skills.
The health centre, which is equipped with modern medical facilities, is expected to provide improved access to healthcare services for residents of the community and neighbouring areas. The Skills Acquisition Centre, also commissioned during the event, is designed to train young people and other interested residents in various vocational skills, including bag and shoe making. The facility also has separate sections for male and female trainees.
Speaking during the commissioning, Ibekwe reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling the promises and projects of his administration, assuring the people of Anaocha that he would continue to deliver projects until the final day of his tenure. He said the commissioning of the two facilities was part of his administration’s commitment to grassroots development and improving the quality of life of residents.
The Mayor commended stakeholders who contributed to the successful completion of the projects, particularly the people of Ngbuwa Village for providing the land for the Skills Acquisition Centre. He also appreciated the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for his commitment to community and grassroots development, noting that his administration was following the Governor’s initiatives and development approach.
The Skills Acquisition Centre has already attracted significant interest, with more than 700 students registered for training in different areas of vocational skills. The development is expected to provide beneficiaries with practical knowledge that could enhance self-reliance and create opportunities for entrepreneurship.
The Councilor representing Akwaeze, Hon. Ugwumba Izuchukwu, and the President-General of Akwaeze, Chief Osita Udemba, were among those who welcomed the Mayor. Udemba commended Ibekwe for completing projects and fulfilling promises made to the people of Akwaeze.
At the commissioning of the health centre, the APGA candidate for Anaocha II State Constituency, Hon. Ikeobi Ejiofor, who delivered the vote of thanks, enrolled 10 citizens of Akwaeze, comprising men and women, into his health insurance scheme.
At the Skills Acquisition Centre commissioning, the traditional ruler of Akwaeze, HRM Igwe Christopher Okpala, Ezennebo of Akwaeze, performed the traditional kola nut prayer and blessing. He commended the Mayor for his development efforts and described Ibekwe as his son in whom he was pleased, noting that he regarded him differently from politicians who make promises without fulfilling them.
Also present was HRH Igwe Damian O. Ezeani, Igwe Ezeani Ugonabo of Neni, who joined his traditional ruler colleague from Akwaeze in supporting the initiative.
The commissioning ceremonies attracted several dignitaries, community leaders and stakeholders from across Anaocha. The event also featured cultural performances, including a display by the Dibu Ugwu Nwanyi cultural dance group, which entertained guests and added colour to the occasion.
The commissioning of the two projects further adds to the ongoing development initiatives of the Anaocha administration, particularly in the areas of healthcare, vocational training and grassroots empowerment.
