Idemili-North Local Government of Anambra state has taken a decisive step towards ending cult activities and incessant killings in the area following the enactment of by-law to stem the tide of brutal killings.and shedding innocent blood.
Chairman, of the Council Area, Hon. Stanley Chigbo Nkwoka, while assenting to the law at the council headquarters, Ogidi, during a press conference, recalled that sometime last month, there were some mass shootings in the council area leading to loss of innocent lives.
Nkwoka described the cult war and tragic loss of lives as very sad development in Idemili-North; which was why he convened a security meeting with stakeholders who came up with a by-law to checkmate cultism in the Council Area..
He added that the by-law also aimed at cautioning members of such clandestine groups against disrupting public peace and public order through their nefarious activities as evident in last month’s broad daylight gun battle between cult groups which claimed lives.
Nkwoka further asserted that Idemili-North wants peace which was why they initiated the laws in line with what the state government already has in place.
The Council Chairman moreover, hinted that the Congress of Councilors passed it into law and he had assented to it, to become a law and operational, henceforth,in Idemili-North.
The Idemili-North local government boss revealed that a body would be set up to partner the police and other security agencies in enforcing the law proscribing cult-related activities, adding that citizens would live freely and happier, if there is less cult-killings in the council area.
Nkwoka who described the law as a symbolic law in Idemili-North, expressed optimism that it would help to curb cultism, land-grabbing, touting and all manner of insecurity in Idemili-North local government area.
He, therefore, called on the youths to be vigilant, protect their communities, their wards and polling units and also report any troublemaker within their respective localities to the council authority because the council, according to him, has the security architecture to intervene.
He said nobody should be afraid to report or say something about suspicious situations because he is in-charge of Idemili-North as the chief security officer at the moment and his administration would not condone any form of intimidations or threats to lives under his watch.
