Ifitedunu Community Sends S.O.S. to Anambra Gov. To Help Release Youths Arrested by Police

A Save our soul message has gone to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to facilitate the release of Ifitedunu Youths held at the Amawbia Correctional Centre.

The traditional ruler of Ifitedunu, Igwe Dr Emeka Ilouno, and other well meaning citizens of the town made the appeal when they embarked on a peaceful protest to register their grievances at the Government House, Awka, following what they described as the illegal arrest and detention of their sons at the Amawbia Correctional Centre, engineered by a faction in the community.

Igwe Ilouno who commended the Governor for reinstating the President General of the town, Hon Chief Uchenna Nwoye, appealed to him to intervene by calling the aggrieved parties to a Round table meeting, facilitate the release of those youths.

They claimed that the youths were locked up under false allegations levelled against them by the other faction led by the Former President General of the community.

Igwe Iluno who wants the governor to instruct the other faction to present evidences to authenticate their allegations, frowned at the way the youths were being detained illegally by those men because they can pay their way through.

The protesters urged the Governor to call the faction to order for peace to reign in the community.

A cross section of the people including the Vice President of Ifite-Dunu, Hon. Chikelue Chidueze, Chief Provost Ifitedunu town Union, Anthony Abeze , Comrade Anthony Ugouzo and Mrs Patricia Ufoalor, among other protesters, were seen carrying placards with inscriptions such as, “Restoring our President General is the best to Ndi Ifitedunu “, ‘Bring Back our Boys from Correctional facility”, and “Solution for Equity and justice, the truth shall prevail”, appealed to Governor Soludo to facilitate the release of their sons and as well direct the other faction to open their town hall which has been under lock and key for some time now

They commended the state government for reinstating their President General and urged him to help restore security in the community.

Addressing the protesters on behalf of the Commissioner, Mr Henry Nwasike applauded the peaceeful manner they carried out their protest and promised state government quick intervention to restore peace and order in the community.

Mr Nwasike further advised them to remain calm while the issue is being looked into. (MOI)
