In a strong response to recent violence, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has ordered the immediate arrest of those responsible for the killing of two police officers during a procession by the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, also known as the Shi’ite group.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday in Abuja, also left three officers critically injured.
The Shi’ite group claims the police attacked them, resulting in casualties on their side as well.
The Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, condemned the attack on the officers, stating, “Those who murdered these policemen have murdered peace.”
The police have already arrested 97 suspects and recovered weapons used in the assault. The IGP has vowed to bring all involved to justice, while also extending condolences to the families of the fallen officers and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
