As part of efforts to stem the rising insecurity in the community, Akabor Village has boosted the morale of the men of the Village Vigilante Service who were recently trained to combat crime and armed Robbery by acquiring patrol vehicles, motorcycle and other security gadgets, which many believes will definitely reflect positively in the efficiency of the security men of the local communities.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed by selected Akabor Executives and Vigilantes Group , which took place on Sunday 29th May 2021, at Igwe Mbaukwu Palace, also saw the official hand over of new Toyota Seina patrol van, Motorbike, Handcuffs, Kits and other relevant gadgets to the men of Akabor Village security outfit.
The Traditional Ruler of Mbaukwu , His Royal Majesty , Igwe P. N Anugwu , in his commendation message said he was briefed that the patrol van and other gadgets were purchased courtesy of contributions of Akabor sons to aid the new security outfit stem and forestall any possible break down of law and order considering presence of prescience study center, Pallotine Seminary in the area, describing the feat as absolute Patriotism.
He encouraged the men of the village vigilante to be dedicated in their duties, especially in areas of intelligence led operations, fishing out of criminal elements, urging them to maintain a good relationship with the Mbaukwu central security for intelligence gathering and also enable them to discharge their duties properly.
Speaking also, the President General Mbaukwu Progressive Union, Rev. Cannon Josiah Ozue, warned that the Akabor Security Outfit wasn’t established to serve as escorts, or to confiscate Vehicles, but to bring security closer to the people.
He revealed that the security outfit has the support of Mbaukwu Progressive Union National in addition to prominent Akabor people noting that more support will be given to the outfit to make them more effective.
On his own part, the Chairman Akabor Peoples Union, Amb. Odira Ezeh, explained that the security outfit is not in competition with the Nigeria Police, but rather, that they were established to play a complementary role to the Police.
He urged the newly inaugurated AVG personnel to be diligent and tactful in their operations advising other vigillage in Mbaukwu that are yet to key in into the ongoing reformation of the vigilante to emulate Akabor community and reform their AVG for a better and improved security system in Mbaukwu and across the state.
The major highlight of the event featured the handing-over of the patrol van, Motorbike, Handcuffs and other kits to the security outfit, inauguration of the Akabor Security Outfit and a brief security meeting with security heads.
Also present at the brief ceremony were Vice President General, Mr. Ikechukwu Afuekwe, the Special Assistant to His Majesty on Security, Comr. Okwii Ibezim, Mr. Emeka Ajaka and other persons in the community security department.
