The risk of illegal structures cannot be overemphasized as it can lead to ill health, loss of life and destruction of properties.
Speaking on Tuesday’s Kpakpando FM’s Gwam Okwu with Adadioramma and Frank on illegal structures on waterways, Special Adviser to Governor Willie on Digital Economy and Executive Chairman of Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Barr. Chike Maduekwe, said that government’s first response is to create policies that will have the interest of the people at heart.
He said that such policies may be hard to carry out as meddlesome interlopers and people’s intervention can forestall the efforts of government.
Admonishing developers to build to specific measurements and requirements, he also told them to stop using less than required measurement for house they build for commercial purposes and not to encroach into government land.
In the course of conversation, a caller from Neni, Mr Nkwadozuoke asked if the government will keep up with the policies they are mapping out towards proper town planning. In his reply, Barr Maduekwe said that it is the wish of every government to sustain policies for the well being of the people.
Barr. Maduekwe also called on people to desilt their gutters and keep off from building structures under high tensions and on waterways as government will not hesitate to punish offenders.
He also said that since 2018, there has been low incidence of collapsed buildings as government has put internal measures in place to ensure that quackery and image spoilers are removed from the physical and planning board.
He also said that government is constantly training staff of the board to enforce lawful practices, desist from taking bribes and work towards making the town a habitable place as town planning is a noble job.
