ActionAid Nigeria, in partnership with the Justice Development and Peace Commission and the South Saharan Social Development Organisation, has raised concerns over escalating violence in Abor Isiala, Enugu State.
Armed herdsmen have been attacking the community since 2022, resulting in the deaths of at least 30 people and displacing over 7,000 residents. Many have fled to nearby cities, while the local economy has collapsed, with farmlands destroyed and over 1,000 children out of school.
ActionAid is urging the Nigerian government to deploy sustained security forces and provide emergency humanitarian aid to the affected community. They also call for the rebuilding of vital infrastructure and efforts to restore peace. They said that the situation remains critical as the people of Abor Isiala continue to live in fear.
