The resident electoral Commissioner in Enugu State Emeka Ononnamadu has said that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC was strategically improving the voters access to polling units in the state. Ononnamadu disclosed this to journalists in a media chat at the INEC headquarters in Enugu on Monday.

Explaining, Ononnamadu pointed out that it was very necessary to decongest over crowded polling units and also create more units for newly established settlements and residential areas in Enugu State. According to the Enugu REC, the commission recently embarked on Nationwide stakeholders engagement during which Nigerians raised concern on the declining voters access to polling units.

The commission also issued guidelines for the creation of polling units. The guidelines made it clear that no polling unit will be located in private buildings or facilities, houses of traditional rulers, religious buildings, political party buildings, residence of government officials or any building which a voter may under any circumstance be denied access except as prescribed by the law, rather at public places centrally located and accessible.
