Calls for massive public enlightenment on symptoms of diabetes for early medical intervention.

Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran, has urged residents to visit hospitals regularly for timely diabetes screening and management.

He made the appeal while briefing journalists during activities marking this year’s World Diabetes Day held in Kano.

Dr. Labaran described the rising prevalence of diabetes in the state as alarming and stressed the need for early detection to prevent complications.

He advised the public to frequently visit hospitals and designated diabetes centres across the state to know their health status and access proper medication.

The Kano Health Commissioners explained that diabetes affects people across all age groups, including children and adults, which informed the government’s decision to expand diabetes centres from 50 to 110.

He added that available statistics show that over six per cent of Nigerians are living with diabetes, a figure he said underscores the urgency for increased awareness.

Dr. Labaran called for massive public enlightenment on the symptoms of diabetes to help curb its spread and encourage early medical intervention.
