Kogi State Police Command has denied reports that over 15 passengers were kidnapped on Anyigba-Itobe highway on Wednesday.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, William Ovye Aya, in a Press Release on Thursday, said the report was false.

He explained that the Command responded to a distress call and chased the kidnappers, then rescued 12 of the passengers, while the kidnappers left with four.

The PPRO intimated that the kidnappers were being trailed in order to rescue the remaining abducted victims.

The statement reads: “The attention of the Kogi State Police Command has been drawn to the news making the rounds that over 15 Passengers are missing as kidnappers stormed Anyigba-Itobe Highway of Kogi State.

“Kogi Police Command urges clarification of reports before going to the press to avoid misleading the public.

“On Wednesday 6/4/2022, the Command received a report that one Toyota bus with Registration Number Benue 192 XA driven by one Benard Ejeh conveying 16 passengers from Abuja heading to Benue State via Ankpa, ran into kidnappers at Ojuwo-Ajegbo village in Ofu Local Government Area along Anyigba road.”
