Labour party has condemned the recent attack by political thugs on some residents of Lagos who are from the south eastern part of Nigeria while attempting to obtain their PVC.
The party was reacting to a report that some Igbos who had gone to register for their permanent voter’s card (PVC) in Lagos were attacked in various parts of the State thereby creating tension in the State.
It called for the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari over the reported attack by political thugs
A Statement by the Publicity Secretary of Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi in Abeokuta, the party described as alarming and frightful that open terrorism on the Igbos to stop them from registering for and obtaining voter’s cards across many points in Lagos State was being launched.
He alleged that the Igbos were being attacked and brutalized at the registration centres.
He said “Most Igbos in the neighbourhood of over 66% have up to now been unable to register and or obtain their PVC officially which is scheduled to end very soon. These are people who do pay taxes and do contribute largely to the economy of Lagos State”
Arabambi hinted that the Labour Party unequivocally urged the President to declare a state of emergency in Lagos State over this ongoing official electoral terrorism, treason, arson and political banditry because of a stitch in time is said to save nine.
He stated that Nigerians are now more informed beyond the traditional past politics.
The Labour Party advised the people to be resolute and not be intimidated by ensuring that they register to obtain their permanent voter card to enable them to vote where they reside.
