Lagos Police Command Arrests Teenager Who Faked Her Kidnap

Lagos State Police Command has arrested 18 year old female, Ujunwa Offiah, for conniving with her boyfriend, 26 Ifesinachi Blessed a resident of Coker area of Lagos State, to fake her kidnap. He also made a demand of 30 million Naira from her family.
Also arrested was Ifesinachi’s other girlfriend known as Precious Chukwu, aged 22. Her phone was said to have been used to negotiate with Offiah’s family.

According to report, the suspects were arrested by operatives attached to the state Criminal Investigation Department, CID of the Command.

While parading the female suspects at the command headquarters on Monday, the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu called it a case of conspiracy and staged kidnapping. He said the man at the center of the case, who is an Uber driver , is still at large but said he would be apprehended.

He said that Mr Blessed had initially asked for 30 million naira but upon negotiation with the family who involved the police, they settled for 700,000 naira. Odumosu said that in the process of pickup and subsequent action taken by the police, the girls were arrested.

While speaking to Newsmen, Offiah said that she met Mr Blessed in October and had jokingly told him to kidnap her so he woul collect ransom from sister. She said she had no idea he actually bought the idea and went ahead to plan it.
She said she couldn’t report his plans to anyone because he is a cultist and had threatened to kill her.

In her defense, the other suspect , Chukwu said he used her phone to make calls but denied knowing he was negotiating ransom as he has told her he was using it for business calls. She said she was at her workplace when Police came to arrest her.
