Following the uproar caused by the death of a 12 year old student of Dowen College, Lekki: Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, the Lagos State Government on Friday ordered the indefinite closure of the school pending the outcome of an investigation into Sylvester’s death.
This order was contained in a statement signed by the Assistant Director, Public Affairs, of the Lagos State Ministry of Education, Ganiu Lawal, stating that the commissioner for Education Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo announced the closure after a meeting with the School Management and Staff.
Young Sylvester’s death had sparked heated reactions online after the report of the shady circumstances surrounding his death was shared by a Twitter user – Perrison oromoni, who claimed to be counsin.
According to Perrison, Sylvester was bullied and beaten by fellow students with the supposed injuries from the beating causing his death,
And although the school denied the allegations, insisting he instead sustained football injuries, the family has remained adamant, accusing the school of complacency.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner has called for calm, saying no effort will be spared in getting to the root of the incident.
