Not fewer than 22 buildings and other properties have reportedly gone down to active gully erosion sites at Obeleagu Street and Nkissi Aroli axis in Onitsha Inland Town following a heavy downpour.
Sources claimed that the incident which occurred on the night of May 12, 2020, also left some occupants of the affected buildings injured as they scampered for safety.
Recall that the area in 2019 lost several buildings in like manner with churches and other public places exposed to threats.
The victims who said they are now stranded having lost their homes and property to the gully appealed to state and Federal Government to come to their aid.
They disclosed that federal and state governments officials had earlier visited the erosion site, but lamented that no action has been taken since then.
The President of Onitsha Improvement Union, Sir Chike Ekweogwu, and the Onitsha North Local Government chairman of the Union, Mr Akunne Chuka Odiakosa, who led a delegation to the scene on Wednesday, also appealed for the state and federal government interventions with a view to assisting the affected as well as avert future occurrences.
