Nigeria has recorded fresh increase in Lassa fever cases, with confirmed infections rising to 963 and deaths reaching 229 in 2026.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) Lassa Fever Situation Report, said cases increased from 14 in epidemiological week 27 to 25 in week 28, with new infections reported in Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, Kogi and Cross River states.
According to NCDC, 23 states have recorded at least one confirmed case this year, with the disease spreading across 114 local government areas, adding that Bauchi, Ondo, Taraba, Benue and Edo account for the majority of cases.
The agency called for continued surveillance, early detection, prompt treatment and adherence to infection prevention measures to check the spread of the disease.
