
Despite the protracted insecurity in the country, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Maj. Gen. Faruq Yahaya has lauded the achievements of his immediate predecessors:
Late Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru and Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd).
Speaking at a press briefing on the occasion of the ‘2021 Nigerian Army Day Celebration’ (NADCEL) in Abuja, the Chief of Army staff, Yahaya stated that his predecessors’ tremendous achievements were inherent in the area of defeating adversaries, infrastructure and manpower development, including professionalism, and civil military cooperation.
Adding that he further plans to mould the Nigerian army to be more professional and ready to accomplish assigned missions to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessors, he disclosed that this year’s NADCEL will be celebrated low key, given the circumstances which preceded his appointment.
Speaking further, Maj Gen. Yahaya noted that the weeklong celebrations will be used to reflect on the performance of the Nigerian Army, celebrate achievements, as well as project the Nigerian Army as an important symbol of national power, unity, integration and development.
He also highlighted some of the activities of the week to include: a medical outreach programme by the medical units, a humanitarian outreach programme to be conducted by members of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA), amongst others.
