The Minister of Justice and Attorney -General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami’s reasons for President Muhammadu Buhari’s refusal to sign the Electoral Act Amendment Bill has sparked outrage and criticisms from Nigerians.
The leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere , Pa Ayo Adebanjo in his response said that it is unfortunate that many people are misleading Buhari and prayed God to get rid of him before he ruins the country. Commenting on the matter, Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary , Mr Jare Ajayi said that the Attorney-General of the Federation is expected to guide the government rightly and not speak in a manner that is confusing. He said that it was expected that any faulty clause in the bill should have been communicated to the National Assembly for clarity on why the president is not assenting to the bill.
Also reacting, MBF’s National President , Dr Bitrus Pogu referred to Malami’s statement as baseless and stated that the President came into office through direct primaries and asked the president to sign the amended electoral act bill so that Nigerians can have a better and credible election by 2023.
Recall that on Tuesday, Malami in a Radio Program stated that signing the Electoral Act Amendment Bill would have caused crisis on the country.
