The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Okwuchukwu Ezimuo, for allegedly stabbing his relative, Joseph Dike, to death during a quarrel over a family land dispute in Umunocha Village, Awka-Etiti, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred on Monday evening, September 22, 2025, when the suspect reportedly struck the 65-year-old victim on the chest. Dike collapsed at the scene and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.
Police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday. He said operatives from the Nnobi Divisional Headquarters visited the crime scene, documented evidence, and arrested the suspect, who is now undergoing interrogation.
Ikenga said, “The Anambra State Police Command operatives attached to the Nnobi Police Divisional Headquarters have arrested one Okwuchukwu Ezimuo, male, aged 45 years, over the death of his relative on an alleged family land dispute in Awka-Etiti. Preliminary information revealed that the deceased collapsed after being struck on the chest by the suspect during a quarrel.”
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the incident and urged residents to resolve disputes peacefully rather than resorting to violence. He directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for further investigation.
This incident comes months after another fatal stabbing was reported in the state in February 2025, where a man killed his elder brother during a family quarrel, sparking renewed calls for peaceful conflict resolution in communities.
