Many Killed As Heavy Duty Truck Crashes Into Long Queue At Army Checkpoint in Enugu
Report says scores were killed when a heavy-duty truck which had brake failure crashed into a long queue of vehicles at an Army checkpoint in Enugu State.
It was gathered that some vehicles were waiting in the line to pass through the checkpoint erected by men of the Nigerian Army at Ugwu Onyeama in Enugu State along the Enugu-Onitsha highway when the unfortunate incident happened.
About 10 vehicles both private and commercial buses were affected and about 25 people were said to have lost their lives, while many more sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to the hospital.
An eye witness said. “A trailer plying the newly constructed lane failed brake and smashed more than 10 cars, both private cars and commercial buses.
“The army checkpoint at that axis continues to claim lives.
“More than 25 persons lost their lives instantly and many rushed to the hospital”.
A video of the incident which has gone viral online showed the bodies of victims littered on the road.
Some vehicles including a petrol tanker truck were seen plunged into a nearby ditch.
Some cars were also seen smashed beyond recognition.
