Motorists Urged To Use Common Sense To Determine Speed Limit During Rains….

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, has cautioned drivers to use their common sense in determining speed limit while driving during rainy season.

The TRACE Area Commander, Ogun West, Commander Ajibade Adekunle, gave the advice in a media chat, pointing out that there is no sense in speeding unnecessarily when it is raining and the road is slippery or when negotiating a sharp bend, because the norms said certain kilometres per hour.

Commander Adekunle who spoke on behalf of the TRACE Corps Commander, ‘Seni Ogunyemi said, “A reasonable driver should apply his senses to determine where to slow down, where to accelerate with maximum caution, whether to park his vehicle when he sees that the rain is obscuring his vision”.

“Let us remember to realize that it is only those who drive and reach their destinations safely that are good drivers. Those who throw caution to the wind and drive recklessly without minding other road users and people they left at home who would suffer if anything happen to them, are never good drivers.

Ajibade said TRACE employ enlightenment exercise, going to mottor parks and garages, aimed at educating drivers on need to abide by traffic regulation to reduce accidents on the roads to the barest minimum.

He said although offenders of traffic regulation are punished to discourage reckless driving, terms of punishment are not always in monetary term.

“Sometimes, offenders may be sent to a psychiatric hospital for brain test, their vehicles may be impounded for certain period or any other punishment befitting the offence.

The government has saddled the TRACE with the responsponsibility of ensuring accident rate, in Ogun State, is drastically reduced to the bearest minimum and we cannot allow nonchalant attitude of drivers to continue to terminate innocent lives in Ogun State.

Ajibade further advised all road stakeholders to always ensure their vehicles are usually put in good order, such as good tyres, etc.
