Ndi Anambra have been enjoined to embrace community policing to combat crimes and other social vices in villages and communities.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Honourable Ostar Christopher, made the call in an interview with journalists in Awka.
Honourable Christopher hinted that the goal of community policing is to reduce crimes, as well as maintain law and order by carefully examining the problems in neighborhoods and applying appropriate solving strategies.
He explained that by so doing police become part of the neighbourhood, which, he noted, will go a long way in helping police have better knowledge of the environment and residents’ needs, which will help develop greater trust in the police.
The SSA who is also the Secretary, Anambra State Cattle Menace Commitee, appreciated Governor Obiano’s giant strides in making Anambra the safest state in the country, and urged them to embrace the innovation as it will go a long way in bringing police and citizens together to prevent crimes and solve neighborhood problems.
He explained that Community policing will help police build relationships with local enterprises such as hoteliers, Restaurants operators, okaada riders tricycle operators and other transporters among other segments of the public in building partnership and mapping out strategies for crime prevention.
The Security Chief who commended Governor Obiano for making Anambra vigilantees vibrant by paying their monthly stipends, also applauded the traditional rulers and the president’s- general for championing the cause of security and policing their communities since it’s inception in 2014.
The SSA further urged the citizenry to give useful information or intelligence report that will assist AVG and police fight crimes and criminality to complement the effort of the Governor.
