Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have discovered a shrine guarded by a snake, used for storing illicit drugs in the Igor community of Benin City, Edo State.
The agents found a specially constructed large hole hidden in a wall covered with wallpapers and fetish objects. The discovery was made during a raid that also led to the seizure of various quantities of methamphetamine, Loud, Colorado, and Arizona, all potent strains of cannabis, weighing a total of 8.743 kilograms.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi reported that two women, Sonia Ezumezu and Risikatu Tijani, were arrested during the operation after the snake guarding the shrine was neutralized.
In a separate operation, two suspects, Obi Ferguson and Ernest Abanum, were arrested in the Usen forest, Ovia South West Local Government Area, Edo State. The raid led to the recovery of 209 kilograms of cannabis and a motorcycle.
Additionally, on June 18th in Abuja, NDLEA operatives intercepted a white Nissan Frontier pickup with fake registration and amber lights in Kiyi village, Kuje area. The vehicle was carrying 454 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa, weighing 340.8 kilograms, procured from Uzeba, Edo State. A 76-year-old man, Francis Omofa, linked to the consignment, was arrested.
