The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has called attention to the high incidence of drug abuse by the female gender, calling for serious intervention from stakeholders.
The Anambra State Commander of the NDLEA, Mohammed Misbah Idris made the observation during a courtesy call to the Commissioner of Basic Education in Anambra State, Prof. Kate Omenugha.
Stressing that the high incidence of drug abuse by the female gender -who are future mothers, with a strategic role and influence in child bearing and nurturing, may result in the breakdown of the family structure, Idris called on the Ministry – considering its strategic role in the education sector, to collaborate with the agency in educating the students at both primary and secondary levels of the inherent dangers associated with drug abuse.
In response, the Commissioner, Prof Omenugha noted that the present administration was ready to collaborate with the commander in the fight against drug abuse in the state, as the state is committed to seeing an end to this social menace.
She also added that Anambra students were taught right from the primary level to recite the state’s shared values, which help to condition their minds on becoming solution providers rather than being a part of the problem to be solved.
