To stem the increasing sales of illegal petroleum products in the state, the newly appointed Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) Anambra State command, Mr Everestus Obiyo, has issued a warning to dealers of illegal petroleum products in the state that he was sent particularly to the state to sanitize the petroleum sector of the state.

He gave the warning during a press meeting at the Corps’ headquarters yesterday in Awka, Anambra state.

He noted that in view of prevailing against illegal petroleum products in the state, it has prompted him to make his first arrest of 4 suspected dealers of illegal adulterated petroleum products.

The four suspects were arrested with illegal adulterated petroleum product loaded in two forty-five thousand litres of LPFO (Low Pour Fuel Oil) tank.

The commandant said that the products look like crude oil itself, but when placed on the analysis they can detect if the product is real or adulterated.

He said that the four suspects were arrested on the 25th of September 2021 while transporting the products with the cone tank branded as “CONOIL” and the suspects were not licensed to carry these products. A reliable tip off from a concerned citizen gave the illegal dealers away.

According to him, the suspects have admitted to their crimes and investigation has commenced after which they will be charged to court.

Mr Everestus urged the media and Ndi Anambra to support and collaborate with the corps to ensure that the illegal practices of petroleum products in the state are reduced.
