Nigeria has failed to participate in the ongoing 2024 International Table Tennis Federation Africa Youth Championships in Gaborone, Botswana, which began on July 15.

The Nigeria Table Tennis Federation cited a lack of financial support from the Federal Ministry of Sports Development as the reason for this setback.

In a statement, the NTTF expressed disappointment for the young athletes who had prepared extensively for the competition. They highlighted that previous participation required intervention from a group called ‘Friends of Table Tennis’ for funding.

This year’s championships feature an increased number of participating nations, serving as qualifiers for the 2024 ITTF World Youth Championships in Sweden. Participating countries include Botswana, Ghana, Egypt, and South Africa, among others.
