President Bola Tinubu and Equatorial Guinean President Teodoro Mbasogo have strengthened bilateral relations with the signing of a significant agreement on the Gulf of Guinea Pipeline Project.
The agreement, which was signed on Wednesday evening in Malabo, marks a key development in the partnership between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.
According to a statement from presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, the agreement covers critical areas such as legislative and regulatory measures for the gas pipeline, its establishment and operation, natural gas transit, and the ownership of the pipeline.
During the event, President Tinubu highlighted that this agreement would unlock new opportunities for gas exploration and job creation.
He also mentioned that the two leaders discussed various issues, including employment, food security, multilateral relations, and conflict resolution on the African continent.
President Tinubu emphasized the need for African nations to seek solutions to their problems internally, drawing parallels with how Europe and America have addressed their challenges.
He stressed the importance of looking inwards to resolve conflicts, particularly in regions like the Republic of Congo.
Equatorial Guinean President Mbasogo noted the importance of deepening cooperation between the two nations and reaffirming Africa’s aspiration for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
The agreement was also signed by Nigerian Foreign Minister Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar and his Equatorial Guinean counterpart Simeon Esono, with several Nigerian ministers, including the Ministers of Justice, Defence, Interior, Petroleum, and Youth Development, present at the ceremony.
