
Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Anambra State branch, Dr Jide Onyekwelu, has commended Anambra State Government for proper utilisation of tax for development purposes.
Dr Onyekwelu made this commendation on at his Obinwanne hospital in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Anambra State during an interview.
He noted that the Government of Dr Willie Obiano is doing well within this ambit of poor economies across Nigeria.
The NMA chairman also commended the Government for establishing the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA).
Saying declaring that medical Insurance is the way to go in healthcare delivery.
Dr. Onyekwelu then appealed to the Anambra Government to reduce tax for private doctors while insisting the government should show empathy on doctors who are paying heavily for a signboard which does not contain any advert. He acknowledged that there is a law on signage and payment depending on the size of the signboard, but
many hospitals do not put signboards as advert but as direction that there is a health facility in a particular place in case of an accident he revealed.
The NMA state Chairman also said that the requirement for the establishment of a hospital is that one must a signboard one metre by one metre square which will only contain the name of the hospital and the address.
Speaking further he explained that
Doctor render social services and should not be treated like traders in the market by being mandated to register with the Ministry of Trade and Commerce and not ministry of health only. In conclusion, He called on the Government to give private doctors access to loans to support them.
