Nigerian content creators recently announced receiving payments from X, previously known as Twitter ad revenue, similar to their American counterparts who began receiving payments in early July.
In a tweet, a user, Abazz expressed gratitude for receiving an alert, attributing it to Elon Musk, along with a screenshot of his ad revenue dashboard showing a payment of N220,345.65. Another verified user, Big Ayo, shared evidence of a payment of N430,960.74 and greeted Elon Musk. X mentioned that the number of people signing up for revenue sharing exceeded expectations, delaying the next payout slightly.
The revenue-sharing model is active globally, spanning over 100 countries, including various African nations. The acquisition of X by Elon Musk for $44 billion last year is seen as a transformative move for content creators.
On August 4th, X mentioned that they were pleasantly surprised by the high number of people signing up for revenue sharing. Despite initially planning payments for the week of July 31st, they now require more time to ensure a thorough review for the upcoming payout. X aims to promptly compensate all qualifying accounts.
The revenue-sharing initiative operates worldwide. The social media platform’s payment processor supports over 100 countries, encompassing Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, and additional African nations. This endeavor is in line with X’s commitment to enabling individuals to earn directly on the platform. X, the company acquired by Elon Musk for $44 billion last year, sees this as a transformative development for their creators. CEO Linda Yaccarino has described it as a significant game-changer.
To become eligible for creator ads revenue sharing, one has to subscribe to Blue or Verified Organizations, accumulate a minimum of 15 million organic impressions across their posts within the past 3 months and equally maintain a minimum of 500 followers.
