The Nigerian Senate has summoned the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, to address the abandonment of a critical section of the Ogbomoso-Oyo Road by the contractor in charge.

The Senate’s Committee on Works, led by Senator Barinada Mpigi, is tasked with uncovering the reasons behind the halted project.

Lawmakers are urging the Federal Government to expedite the rehabilitation of the old Ogbomoso-Oyo Road to prevent further tragedies.

This follows a motion by Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, who highlighted the dire situation in Ogbomoso after a tragic tanker accident caused traffic chaos, displaced residents, and halted economic activities.

The road, less than 500 meters long, has become a deathtrap, responsible for numerous accidents.

Over ten accidents have occurred in recent days, leading to the loss of lives, injuries, and the destruction of goods worth millions of naira.
