Nigerian Traders In Ghana Seek End To Harassment

Nigerian traders in Ghana have urged the Federal Government to take urgent steps to stop the harassment of its citizens by Ghanaian authorities.
Mr. Chukwuemeka Nnaji, President of the Nigerian Union of Traders Association in Ghana (NUTAG) made the call in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.

Nnaji who was speaking against the backdrop of the recent arrest of 500 Nigerians in Bolga, Upper West region of Ghana noted that the Nigerians were arrested by Ghanaian immigration, and were moved to the Aflao border without proper investigation to ascertain the gravity of their offense.

The trade union boss who described the move by Ghanaian immigration as unacceptable, lamented the height of inconsideration being meted out to Nigerians in Ghana.

Mr. Nnaji further explained that the illegal Nigerians who were arrested, fell victim of a Ghana-based company called “Q-Net” which collaborates with some Nigerian residents in Nigeria to deceive people by telling them about employment opportunities in Ghana with renumeration of about $250 weekly.

These Unsuspecting Nigerians come who pay handsomely to the international Trafficking ring to get to Ghana meets their Waterloo once in Ghana as the traffickers Swiftly disappears, leaving them stranded.
Nnaji further urged the Government to take urgent measures to curb the activities of human traffickers in Nigeria.
