The winner of the 44th Miss Nigeria beauty pageant, Shatu Garko, has said she is not bothered by those who criticize her for participating in the beauty pageant because she is a Muslim.
The 18-year-old hijab-wearing queen in a chat with journalists on Friday noted how she was being harassed from different quarters for participating in the pageant.
Noting that she had gotten many messages stating she had engaged in obscenities; with some calling for interrogation of her parents and others suggesting she rigged the competition, the Kano state Indigene said she was dismissive of such messages and was instead focused on using her crown to eliminate menstrual poverty and educate young girls on menstrual hygiene.
The young lady is the first ‘Hijabi’ to win the pageant and took home the prize of N10m, one-year residency in a luxury apartment, brand new car, and many brand ambassadorship opportunities.
