
NiMET Predicts Heat Stress Will Persist in Coming Days
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has announced that the current high temperatures in the country will continue for some time.
The Agency announced this in a brief post on its X page, the official source for weather and climate news.
The Director General, Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Mansur Bako Matazu, explained the ramifications of the heat stress and advised the people on how to handle the situation.
He said, “Air Temperatures hit 41°C over the North and 39°C over the South with model Projections indicating temperatures to remain high in the coming days,” NiMET said.
The agency explained that the implications include Dehydration which could also cause fainting, chicken Pox disease, Measles, Heat Rash, weakness of the body, slight fever, and dry lips.
It further informed that Heat-Related Illnesses such as Respiratory Issues; and Increased Vulnerability to chronic conditions.
The NIMET DG, therefore advised that precautionary measures to be taken include Adequate fluid intake, staying under shade, use of fans, and wearing of light, breathable clothing to reduce exposure to high temperatures.
He also advised citizens to Avoid strenuous physical activity during peak heat hours, Stay indoors as much as possible between 12:00 noon and 4:00 pm, evening time.
