The Director, National Orientation Agency, Anambra State Directorate, Barrister Charles Nwoji, has advocated arrest, detention and prosecution of parents who send their children or wardst to hawk during school hours across the country by Government at all levels.
The NOA State Director, Barrister Nwoji, speaking during a press interview in his office in Awka, as Children in Anambra State joined their counterparts all over the country to celebrate this year’s Children’s Day, observed that hawking in certain places expose Children to dangers such as rape, child trafficking, drug abuse, among other horrifying experiences.
Barrister, Nwoji, who stressed that majority of Nigerian children are today being faced with the problems of living on the streets, communal conflicts, deprivation, poverty, early marriage as well as discrimination against handicapped children, called on all to stop the exponential increase on child labour and child abuse of all kinds.
He noted that the promotion and protection of the Nigerian Child’s Rights is everybody’s duty and condemned in its entirety, the incessant infringement on the rights of Nigerian children’s, calling for holistic celebration of Nigerian children with a view to building better Nigerian children who would become genuine leaders of tomorrow.
The State NOA Director enjoined parents, teachers, Government, Religious and Community leaders, as well as the Media, to play greater roles in making the Children’s Day celebration relevant in society, communities and nation at large.
Furthermore, he commended the unflinching efforts of state Government in improving and promoting not only the rights, education and healthcare of Anambra Children, but also their welfare as contained in the 1959 United Nations General Assembly Declaration of the Rights of Children.
