The Special Adviser to Anambra State Governor on Trade, Chief Evarist Uba, on Wednesday October 8, visited Ogbogwu Market, Onitsha, where he joined traders in their monthly prayer meeting and addressed issues surrounding market leadership and development.
During the visit, Chief Uba clarified that the present caretaker committee of the market remains the only leadership recognized by the Anambra State Government.
He emphasized that no market election will hold until after the November 8, 2025 Anambra governorship election, urging traders to remain peaceful and law abiding.
According to him, only those who own shops and conduct genuine business within the market have the right to participate in its leadership affairs. “It is only he who wears the shoe that knows where it pinches,” Chief Uba said.
He commended the caretaker Chairman, Comrade Chukwulota Ndubisi, for maintaining orderliness and supporting the vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, for organized, modern markets across the state.
Chief Uba also commissioned a newly installed 500KVA transformer provided by the market’s caretaker committee to boost electricity supply to traders.
He lauded the effort as a demonstration of partnership with the government’s developmental agenda and urged traders to continue paying all government approved revenues to sustain progress in the market sector.
Also speaking, the Mayor of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Hon. Emeka Orji, encouraged traders to align fully with the directives of the state government.
He praised Governor Soludo for his numerous achievements within the market and beyond, describing the administration as focused and people oriented.
In his remarks, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ogbogwu Division, SP Richard Nnamdi Ineke, commended the government for its developmental strides and assured continuous collaboration between the police and market authorities to ensure peace and security in the area.
Responding, the caretaker committee chairman, Comrade Chukwulota Ndubisi, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Soludo for transforming the market system in Anambra State.
On behalf of the entire traders of Ogbogwu Market, he declared total support and endorsement for Governor Soludo’s second term in office, pledging continued cooperation with the state government.
The highlight of the event was the official commissioning of the 500KVA transformer by Chief Evarist Uba, on behalf of the Governor.
