Ohaneze Youths Allege Security Agencies Are Sabotaging Gov. Ugwuanyi’s Efforts To Check Activities Of Herdsmen

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, has again called for an end to the killing of indigenes of Eha-Amufu in Enugu State by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The youths noted that on Tuesday, 20th December, 2022, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State summoned another emergency meeting of all stakeholders from Eha-Amufu where far reaching decisions were taken.

They described Eha-Amufu as a theatre of war, with several lives and properties lost.

In a statement made available to journalists, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, commended Governor Ugwuanyi for his efforts in trying to profer solutions and end the carnage in Eha-Amufu.

However, the group alleged that security agencies are not doing enough to save the situation in the area despite the support from the State Government.

Okwu, maintained that he had been keenly observing the ugly incidents in the area, and noted that despite the complex nature of the problems “the Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has done so much to restore peace and tranquility in Eha-Amufu.

“Quite frankly, this is not a time to play politics. We are aware of the several interventions by the Governor ever since this unfortunate incident started. These efforts are satisfactory and we wish to thank the Governor for standing by the people,” he stated.

The Ohanaeze youth President urged the Federal Government to call the rampaging Fulani herdsmen to order.

“Within the last few weeks, over 100 persons have been slaughtered in Eha-Amufu and this cuts across all ages.

“We are unhappy as noy word has come from the Federal Government as a form of sympathy to those affected. This lends credence to the belief in some quarters that the killers have the backing of the government.

“A time has come for the President Muhammadu Buhari government to convince the entire world that it was not giving tacit support to the killers. They must be stopped from wreaking further havoc forthwith.

“We find it hard to comprehend why the killer herdsmen will want to push our people out of their ancestral land.

“It is even more curious that they launch these attacks from Benue State and return unchallenged. This has to end; the security agencies must show the world that they are not part of what is happening.

“For the umpeenth time, we call on the Federal Government-controlled security agencies to disarm the AK-47 wielding Fulani herdsmen who are slaughtering our people,” he declared.
