Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has indefinitely suspended the Public Safety Response Team (PSRT) following multiple complaints of extortion, harassment, and misconduct.

The decision comes after a tragic incident on Wednesday at Ring Road, Benin City, where PSRT operatives attempted to seize the steering wheel of a moving vehicle, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle crashed into a POS kiosk, killing a two-year-old girl.

An enraged crowd attacked the PSRT officers and took them to the police station alongside the child’s body. The government has promised a full review of the team’s operations to ensure professionalism and respect for human dignity.
