Algerian boxer Imane Khelif won the 66kg Olympic final in Paris by unanimous decision against China’s Yang Liu, despite facing a major controversy over her eligibility. The International Boxing Association had previously disqualified Khelif from competing in the women’s category at last year’s world championships.

However, the International Olympic Committee cleared her to compete in Paris. Khelif has now spoken out about the online harassment and fear she experienced during the tournament. She described the intense social media abuse, which included global figures like Elon Musk and Donald Trump, as deeply hurtful and terrifying. Despite the challenges, Khelif said she was grateful for the support she received and the psychiatrists who helped her through this difficult period.
