On Foreign News,
Philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has announced plans to give away 99% of his $200 billion fortune and shut down the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation by December 31, 2045.
In a blog post today, Gates said the foundation will shift focus to achieve its goals faster by doubling investments and providing certainty to partners.
Founded in 2000, the foundation has spent over $100 billion on global health, education, and poverty alleviation.
Its milestones include vaccine development, fighting polio, and reducing child mortality from diarrhea. Gates said 1% of his wealth, about $1.6 billion may be left to his three children.
Despite criticism over his influence in global health, Gates remains firm on his philanthropic vision.
