The World Health Organization (WHO), has raised the alarm over a worsening malnutrition crisis in Gaza.
In a Sunday statement, WHO revealed that nearly one in five children under five in Gaza City now suffers from acute malnutrition, many in life-threatening conditions with over 5,000 children being treated in just two weeks and only four treatment centres operating at capacity, thereby making the health system overwhelmed.
The WHO says more than 40% of pregnant and nursing women are also severely malnourished.
The crisis is worsened by limited access to food, healthcare, and safe transport. Over 1,000 people have reportedly died trying to access basic needs.
WHO is calling for immediate, large-scale humanitarian intervention and urges a political resolution to halt the escalating crisis.
