On Sports News,

Victor Osimhen has equaled Segun Odegbami’s record as Nigeria’s joint-top scorer with 23 goals for the Super Eagles. The Napoli loanee, currently on fire with Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig, scored a crucial header in the 81st minute to secure a 1-1 draw against Benin Republic in Thursday’s 2025 AFCON qualifying match at Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny, Ivory Coast.

Osimhen achieved this milestone in just 38 appearances since his debut in 2017, matching Odegbami’s record set over 47 matches between 1976 and 1981. Nicknamed “Mathematical,” Odegbami was a pivotal figure in Nigeria’s 1980 AFCON triumph.

Osimhen, who starred at youth levels before joining the senior team, has delivered remarkable performances, including two international hat-tricks. He finished the 2023 AFCON qualifiers as top scorer with 10 goals, cementing his reputation as one of Africa’s finest strikers.
