In a bid to ease the burden of rising food prices and improve access to affordable protein, Ondo State Government has introduced subsidised frozen chicken sales at ₦5,000 per chicken
The initiative, which commenced on Tuesday, 20th October, 2026, is being. implemented through the Ondo State Agribusiness Empowerment Centre (OSAEC), to lessen the burden of households struggling with the rising cost of food.
According to the OSAEC Chairman, Hon. Rotimi Wemimo Akinsola, the programme was being implemented on behalf of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as part of efforts to reduce the financial pressure on the people.
“Families are feeling the pressure of rising food prices. We want every household in Ondo State to be able to afford quality protein, so we are selling full chickens at a subsidised rate of ₦5,000,” Akinsola said.
He explained that the intervention aligns with OSAEC’s mandate to promote food security, strengthen agribusiness development and improve access to affordable food across the state.
OSAEC Chairman added that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to practical measures that address the rising cost of living and help residents meet their basic food needs.
Akinsola urged residents to take advantage of the subsidised sale. He also thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa for supporting programmes designed to improve food affordability and public welfare.
Each chicken weighs between 1.3kg and 1.6kg and is sold at the fixed price of ₦5,000. The rate is significantly lower than prevailing market prices, where frozen chicken reportedly sells for between ₦6,500 and ₦7,000 per kilogram in many markets.
The chickens are available at the OSAEC office, opposite the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) office along Obafemi Awolowo Way, Alagbaka, Akure.
Interested residents are advised to contact OSAEC for further information about the sale.
