One dead as suspected armed robbers engage police in gun battle in Anambra State.

A suspected armed robber was shot dead during a gun battle between the Police and a robbery syndicate in Isiagu Ring road in Awka, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra state.

Report said the suspected armed robbers were robbing three occupants of a black Accura legend car of their valuables at gun point before he met his waterloo.

He was reportedly rushed to the hospital for treatment but certified dead on arrival by a medical doctor and his corpse deposited in the mortuary.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, said one fabricated gun, three cartridges, one torch light, three handsets and undisclosed amount of money allegedly snatched from the victims were recovered from him.

Haruna said that there was a distress call around 9 o’clock in the evening that suspected armed robbers blocked Isiagu Ring road in Awka South LGA, robbing the occupants.

He added that following the distress call Police operatives attached to the Command Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) CPS Awka and local vigilante quickly responded and rushed to the scene.

He further revealed that as soon as the suspected armed robbers sighted the police, they engaged the security agents in a fierce gun battle forcing the hoodlums to jettison the robbery operation and scamper into the bush for safety.

Haruna said the bush was cordoned off by the Police leading to the recovery of another fabricated pistol with four rounds of .9mm life ammunition, while effort is being intensified to apprehend other fleeing suspects believed to have sustained gunshots during the encounter.

The Command assured Ndi Anambra of their safety during and after this ember period, urging them to report any person with bullet injuries at the nearest police station to enable the Command ascertain the circumstances surrounding the injuries.
