No fewer than one thousand people benefited from a free medical outreach organized by Awka Union USA and Canada, an initiative focused on reducing hardship and improving access to healthcare for the less privileged.

The outreach, which was the fifth international medical mission by the association, held at Manari Osonwa Free Clinic, Obodo Ezi Obunagu, Amikwo, Awka, in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The exercise attracted a large crowd as residents received free medical checkups and treatment for illnesses such as malaria, typhoid, diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, eye defects, and other non-surgical health challenges.

Speaking during the program, the Secretary General of the union, Dr. Dilim Iloanya, alongside the lead doctor, Dr. Tochukwu Agbata-Uyanwunne, stated that the outreach forms part of the union’s humanitarian and poverty reduction efforts aimed at giving back to society. They assured that the group would continue supporting Ndi Awka and other residents, especially amid the current economic difficulties facing the country. They also advised the public to prioritize their health and avoid self-medication.

In his remarks, Mr. Onwuegbunem Felix Chukwunenye from Obunagu Village commended the organizers for their generosity, noting that proper awareness and publicity contributed to the huge turnout recorded during the exercise.

Some beneficiaries, including Chukwu Ngozi Deborah and Chidimma Emmanuel, expressed appreciation to the group, saying the free medical outreach helped restore their health and relieved them of the financial stress of hospital bills.
