Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, the Executive Secretary of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), has revealed that his agency has paid over a billion naira to over 200 accredited hospitals as capitation and fee for service on behalf of beneficiaries who registered with the scheme in less than three years since it took off.
The Executive Secretary made this known on Friday, 12th February, 2021 when he received Newsmen in his office at Awka.
He said that his agency is not owing any healthcare provider that is accredited with ASHIA. He explained that they are paid t
monthly after assessing the health services they rendered to enrollees.
He said that his agency has paid for about 3,000 major surgeries, over 100,000 hospital visits(encounters) and about 4000 nights(hospital admissions) in less than three years of the establishment of ASHIA. He also stated that about 11 states have come to Anambra to study the scheme in order to either set-up or improve on their schemes.
Dr. Onyemaechi who is also the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health revealed that aside the payments and making sure ASHIA enrollees are well treated and attended to by accredited hospitals informed that the Agency through it’s infrastructural intervention program, has equipped some of the General Hospitals with ambulances, solar power systems, critical diagnostic equipment and other facilities.
He thanked Gov. Willie Obiano for his visionary leadership of the state and for his huge investments in the health sector.
