Indigenes of Ifitedunu Community in Dunukofia local government area of Anambra State took to the streets on Friday to protest the alleged abuse of office by their President- General, MrUche Oragwuncha.
The protesters marched to the Government House, Awka, with placards baring various inscriptions where a letter, addressed to Governor Willie Obiano was presented by their representative, Engr Uchechukwu Ogoemeka.
The protesters claim alleged extortion through a COVID-19 levy of N5,000 on all taxable adults in the Community including an imposed unauthorized burial levy of N1,000 on every bereaved family in the community
They also claimed mismanagement of state government Covid-19 palliatives to the community by the office of the PG and pitching of community members against one another.
While declaring total support for the state government effort in the fight against the dreaded pandemic, security and unemployment in the state, they implored the state governor to call the PG to order to avoid a breakdown of law and order in the area.
They were received by the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Greg Obi, represented by Henry Nwasike, who urged them to maintain the peace, assuring that the state government will look into their demands.
